Hi all, If you're developing XML/Java applications with IDS (7.x or 9.x) or Cloudscape and have some spare cycles to take part in a beta program then here is something that might be of interest. Version 2.0 of Informix Object Translator is planned to go into beta in September and we are looking for more people to join the program. Object Translator 2.0 is a development tool for Java developers wanting to make use of XML and Servlets/EJBs within their applications, it provides a higher level approach to developing the connectivity pieces than writing the JDBC/DOM code by hand. You can find details on the new features and a link to the beta programs sign-up page (filling in the form sends through your contact info, after that you get a beta kit to fill in and send back for consideration/approval...) at the following URL: http://www.informix.com/idn-secure/webtools/ot/version2/index.html the main IDN page for Object Translator is at: http://www.informix.com/idn-secure/webtools/ot/ kind regards ben ben.wilde@informix.com
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 What happened to the XML support in the Informix Internet Foundation (IIF 2000) database. Last i checked, there was a java user defined procedure based demo. Any idea whether if and when XML support will make it into the database. - --Kannan. Hi Kannan, It is still in progress. Object Translator is just one of a number of projects currently underway, it deals with the majority case where people have relational data they need to be able to publish out as XML. There is also work underway working on storage of XML as XML beyond just storing the data as a CLOB and accessing with an embedded XML Parser (which can already be done using J/Foundation - check out the demo on the IDN XML corner). The issues being looked at with that work are around indexing/searching the XML where the DOM is preserved. IMO at least that there are fewer people trying/wanting to do that c.f. exchanging data as XML - but it is still something that is important (hence the work being done). In the next release of the Verity Datablade it is also being documented how to filter XML documents using text indexing (this is already possible I am told, but undocumented to a large degree). The other work that is taking place is on providing a supported version of the Apache XML components (the Java version), Xerces and Xalan that customers can use and get fixes to bugs/issues from Informix. Initially they will be available as part of other products such as Object Translator (both) and Informix JDBC 2.20 (just Xerces for more info on that feature in JDBC 2.20 check out: http://www.informix.com/idn-secure/Java/WebPages/ntier/jdbc/jdbc220overview. html).
