Hello, I am trying to connect to an Informix-Turbo 3.1 databse from a Informix Dynamic Server 7x. Everything seems to work but when I goto connect to it I get error 408: Invalid message type received from the sqlexec process. What does this mean I red in the Informix error index that it has something to do with the databse and the libraries having trouble communicating. I also get this error when trying to connect to the local database. By the way, I'm new to installing informix. Thanks Tyson Oswald Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Hope this helps a little in understanding my problem. Tyson Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
Unfortunately, you're out of good luck. This is not unexpected for the versions you specified. The versions have too big difference in sqli protocols. For some versions the differences are trivial, and don't cause problems. In other cases, the differences are great enough that the severs cannot understand each other well enough to function properly. A 408 error indicates exactly this kind of mis-communication between your servers In this case, changes were made to the sqli commands of the 7.30 server, such that Informix-Turbo 3.1 can no longer understand it well enough to function properly. We're going to need some platform details, and more precise version numbers, probably. Not being able to connect to the local database means there's a big setup problem of some sort. More seriously, the Turbo 3.1 version has me completely puzzled. Unless my memory is failing me (always a possibility), Turbo was only available in versions 1.10.03x for x in a range of upper-case letters (such as A..M). It is also very, very obsolete. I'm pretty sure that the connections from IDS 7.30 to Turbo are not possible; Turbo did not provide distributed database access, and to have IDS 7.30 access the Turbo system, you'd have to be using distributed database access. Having an ESQL/C program written using CSDK 2.x (or even ESQL/C 7.x) is unlikely to work; the connectivity is all different. So, either you are confused about the name and version of the product you are calling Turbo, or you are seeking in vain. -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@informix.com, jleffler@earthlink.net) Guardian of DBD::Informix v0.62 -- see http://www.perl.com/CPAN #include <disclaimer.h>

All I could remember about Turbo release versions were a) to the best of my knowledge it wasn't officially released and b) version names - SNAP, CRACKLE and POP.
