Hi, I need connect to INFORMIX-SE 4.11.UC1 database from Windows (prefered 2000/XP/2003). Do you know any link with useful information (ODBC driver, documentation, etc.) On IBM web site i founded only 2-3 links but not useful. I have no expirirnce in INFORMIX database server. ph

And you should not be attempting to get it with SE 4.11; it was obsolete circa 1995, arguably longer ago than that. You've got a fight on our hands, even if everything is favourable. Do you have I-Net on your Unix machine where SE 4.11 is running? What o/s is running there? If not, I suggest upgrading to SE 7.2x immediately. If so, then you *may* be able to get ODBC to talk to SE by running $INFORMIXDIR/lib/sqlexecd (and the presence or absence of that executable may be your only way to tell if you have I-Net installed) on the machine. You'll have to dig up the notes on how to configure I-Net 4.11; the sqlhosts file is different from the version 5.x and more recent versions. I probably do have the manual at the office, but it will take some digging out (if you'd seen my office, you'd know what I mean!). So, you will run sqlexecd; it will listen on some port; you will then configure your Informix ODBC driver on the Windows machine to connect to your Unix box on the port to which sqlexecd is listening. And, if the wind is with you, you will have a connection that you can use. You're in a tough spot. No I-Net; nothing doing. With I-Net, you're on unsupported software using an unsupported combination. If it works, great; if not, don't try Tech Support unless you want to upgrade. It may be simpler to migrate the database: DB-Export the current database, transfer to new machine with current SE - or IDS - and DB-Import. Let's put it this way - this is what I'd do. -- Jonathan Leffler #include <disclaimer.h> Email: jleffler@earthlink.net, jleffler@us.ibm.com Guardian of DBD::Informix v2005.02 -- http://dbi.perl.org/
V4 is really realy really old.... First check if you have inet installed: ls -l $INFORMIXDIR/lib/sqlexecd if not then you can give up; try to get (V7 SE : latest ) and start from there if so you need to start it as root. $INFORMIXDIR/lib/sqlexecd <someservice> then you have to fill in setnet32 info which is in client sdk which you can download for server and informixserver use your hostname of your machine (make sure your local hosts file on windowze has the ip and hostname in it!!!!!!) for protocol sesoctcp for service the number from someservice or make sure your service file has the entry in it. test if it works ... try ilogin. no garantees... clientsdk may not work at all against V4.. Thank you,
your information are useful.
I know, that this is very old version :(,
it works on HP-ux B.10.20 A 9000/826,
unfortunately there isn't $INFORMIXDIR/lib/sqlexecd
on this machine.
My task is gather only information from database to other
database and this machine will be turn off.
I think eksport will be useful, i found dbexport in
....informix/bin, but because I have 2 databases
(two file *.dbs in diffrent locations but with the same file name)
on this server - where can I find names of this databases?
