Under MS Windows the printing is dependent on the printer driver you use. With regular programming (in C, Visual Basic, Delphi or other tools) you can drive the printer directly via a separate set of functions (an API). In this case you can control the printing directly, but without the use of escape codes. The control of the printer is independent of what printer you have as long as it can print graphics. For primitiv printing of plain text only you can allways send that to the printer. In this case there is however no print control language. You can simply set a single font that is used throughout. This is what is done with regular reports in products like NewEra. Very primitive, but you do get to print plain text in a simple way. Using escape codes under MS Windows assumes you can find a printer driver that will simply send on to the printer whatever you send out. That may possibly work if you set up your printer with a different printer driver. I seem to remember there was a "teletype" driver or something similar under Windows 3.1 for primitive printers that could do nothing but print a single font. That may possibly work for you. The best solution under Windows is however allways to use some kind of report generator. That gives you full control and relative independence of the actual printer the user have. I do say relative because many printer drivers and several applications (report writers and others) still print different enough on different printers that you may have to change your layout in more or less soubtle ways.
