(uh, 1,500 jobs for Informix, 13,000 for Oracle). Hmmm. I come from Kansas, and one guy with a combine can do the work of hundreds with scythes. I'm not saying that Oracle doesn't have the lion's share of the market, but your guesstimate proves nothing. I'm not a DBA, but those I've talked with who have worked with both prefer Informix because it is less labor intensive (see combine vs. scythe above). >Does that mean it >will always be that way? You're confusing market share with ability. History is replete with examples of superior products that failed because of poor marketing. carlos Currently on hiatus from unemployment. ---------------------- Do you do Linux? :) Get your FREE @linuxstart.com email address at: http://www.linuxstart.com

No, that isn't what I have said, but the number of technology jobs out in the Bay Area outpace the rest of the nation. > > > >You go to a site such as Dice.com, and do a search for > >Informix vs. Oracle in Northern CA and you tell me who has the market share > >:-)). See other post....scalability, customizability, enterprise level, etc. In terms of DBA's, maybe I just don't know enough Informix DBA's but the Oracle ones I know and work with enjoy it and prefer it. So, guess it's just a matter of who you know. > > >Does that mean it > >will always be that way? Now you're just admitting your opinions can not be qualified as 'informed'. Disagree with you hear. I have yet to hear anyone that was trashing Oracle earlier on which started this entire thread admit that they have actually been an Oracle DBA. I made a "defensive judgement" but it was all in fun on my part. Geeezzzz, you Informix people ARE a little edgy! > > > >mars1972@my-deja.com wrote: > > > >> In article <390E17D3.2882A065@yahoo.com>, > >> Nikita <Nikita@yahoo.com> wrote: > >> > Ability????... > >> > If Oracle were purely hype, they would have been dead a long time ago, > >> just > >> > like Infomix. > > You're confusing market share with ability. If your Informix assignment is intensive enough, you would have got to know Informix reasonably well by then. Thanks Rudy
