Reorganizing a table to bring down the number of e
Posted in 2008
A user tried to consolidate a large table's 17 extents with "ALTER FRAGMENT ON TABLE ... INIT" and hit error 458/12204, a long transaction abort because the operation filled the logical logs. Suggestions were to add/enlarge logical logs or turn logging off. John Miller recommended simply switching the table to RAW (unlogged) for the operation, and the poster confirmed the sequence: alter next size, alter table type (raw), alter fragment init, then alter table type (standard). A follow-up noted raw tables exist in 7.31, but indexes on raw tables aren't allowed until version 10.

Hi all, I use "alter fragment on table rtistand init in da11dbs" to bring down its 17 extents. I got the error "458: Long transaction aborted" "12204: RSAM error: Long transaction detected." The table is a large one (row size 30 - No. of row 16,948,237). The server runs out of log space for this transaction. The only way to overcome is to increase the logical log size. Are there other ways without increasing the logical log size when using this method? Subject: Reorganizing a table to bring down the number .... [11451]
Hi all,
I use "alter fragment on table rtistand init in da11dbs" to bring down
its
17 extents.
I got the error "458: Long transaction aborted" "12204: RSAM error: Lon=
=3D
g
transaction detected."
The table is a large one (row size 30 - No. of row 16,948,237).
The server runs out of log space for this transaction.
The only way to overcome is to increase the logical log size.
Are there other ways without increasing the logical log size when using=
=3D
this method?
Thanks
Long Huy Nguyen
