Dynamic Server 2000 on Linux

hi, i tried to install the Informix Dynamic Server 2000 trial version. but without success. Anyone here with success ? What i did so far..(after Installation) export INFORMIXDIR=/opt/informix export PATH=$PATH:$INFORMIXDIR/binadded to /etc/service: sqlexec 1526/tcp # informix edited sqlhosts: demo_on sesoctcp omnfr66 sqlexec when i now try to start dbaccessdemo9 i get informed to start onspaces before -> result onspaces -c -S s9_sbspc -g 4 -p $INFORMIXDIR/test -o 0 -s 2000 shared memory not initialized for INFORMIXSERVER 'demo_on' I asume the main cause is that the sqlexec entry is wrong. The CD came without documentaion, i didnt find anything usefull on informix.com (where is the administrators guide they are talking about ??) walter -- ----- "We'll all become unpeople, undoing unthings untogether." -----

Did you create an ONCONFIG file? There is a SAMPLE file in $INFORMIXDIR/etc/onconfig.std which will be used by default if the ONCONFIG environment variable is not set but that file is ONLY a sample and contains useless stuff like locating the engine's ROOTDBS (base disk chunk) in /dev/online_dev (or somesuch) which file likely does not exist. There IS information in this list's archive, on the IIUG and Informix WEB Site and in the Administrator's Guide (at: www.informix.com/answers) on how to set up the ONCONFIG file for the first time and how to bring up the engine for the first time (oninit -ivy FYI: NEVER use the -i flag after this initialization or you will lose all of your data).
