I-NET and trusted host access
Posted in 1993
We are currently running 90 Sun workstations, with 3 SE database servers and I-NET access between machines. One of the biggest bug-bears we have with our setup is that I-NET requires trusted host access from the workstation to the database server. This means that any user of our network can login to the database servers using commands like 'rsh', 'rlogin', etc. An ideal setup would be for the user process to talk to an informix process (on the same machine), and then the informix process could have trusted host access (restricted by user id) to the database server. N.B. an initial problem with this concept is that the Informix security on user may have problems. Does anyone know of whether Informix consider this a failing (to be addressed) or do I have to keep fighting the slander that comes from our System Administration staff ? BTW - We are currently running 4.0 licences, but we have 4.1 licences sitting on the shelf (awaiting other software updates), and 5.0 licences on order. regards, Lionel Waugh Systems Analyst AWA Defence Industries Phone: +61 8 256 0373 PO Box 161 Fax: +61 8 255 9117 Elizabeth SA 5112 Email: lwaugh@awadi.com.au Australia
