RE: IDS 7.22 and 7.31 co-exist?

Fiona, I currently run 7.24 and 7.31 in an HP environment without any problems. There are some soft links created in /usr/lib that point to shared libraries in the $INFORMIXDIR/lib directory. You'll have to choose (or maybe the engine will require) which version of these libraries to use. I always go with the latest, but keep this in the back of your mind. Install in separate sub-directories, name then instances with different names (DBSERVERNAME * DBSERVERALIASES) and different server numbers (SERVERNUM). Use a separate set of port numbers in /etc/services for each instance and separate disk space. All will be well. You may want to get my aspace scripts to manage the disks in the two instances so they do not stomp on each other. Informix's utilities cannot tell if a disk you are asking the engine to use is already in use by another instance. Aspace can. It is in the package utils_ak in the IIUG Software Repository at www.iiug.org. Art S. Kagel
