Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
The poster wanted to automate restoring a daily level-0 ontape archive onto a second server without manual intervention. Art Kagel's answer: pipe the archive file into "ontape -r -t STDIO <archive_file_path", which the poster confirmed worked. For adding level 1/2 backups, Kagel noted the restore is interactive (ontape prompts for further files) so it may not be automatable, suggesting an untested "cat level0 level1 level2 | ontape -r -t STDIO". He also said you cannot restore an IDS 10/9 ontape archive into IDS 11 — the ontape version must match — though archecker might extract the data.

Hi to all
i am doing a daily L0, and i want to send it to another server in order to do
a restore. i think that is possible to do this restore automatically without a
human hand.
am i right ? and if so, how to do it ?
thanks in advance
ontape -r -t STDIO <archive_file_path

and can i do a restore in IDS 11 from a backup of an earlier version (10, 9)
Thanks
If you also have to restore level 1 &/or level 2 IB that you need an
interactive restore, so you may not be able to use -t STDIO but will have
to use -t <path> instead and ontape will prompt for the additional files so
you may not be able to automate the restore. However, you could try:
cat level0.file level1.file level2.file | ontape -r -t STDIO
and see what happens. Never tried that.

No, to the second part. You can only restore with the exact same version
of ontape that made the archive. You MAY be able to use the archecker to
extract the data from the older archives and insert into tables in an
existing instance, however.
