1) Sounds like a UDO/2000 feature, and probably not included in the product
itself. You should be able to write a fairly simple datablade to do this though.
One is already in progress, in http://www.informix.com/shareware/datablade.htm
(I think, you may want to search the site for datablades).
2) One could be using OUTPUT TO filename SELECT * FROM tablename in dbaccess
provided you can fit all the output row in one line. Alternatively you can use a
simple ESQL/C or Java/JDBC or even ESQL/COBOL program to do the same. You can
also check out a tool called SQLCMD, by Jonathan Leffler, available in the iiug
archives. Sorry, Jonathan, for pushing your program like it was the next
greatest thing since sliced bread, but I have never actually used your program,
but hearing about its features, I guessed this feature should either already be
there or be fairly simple to add.

Subject: external tables with Informix > 7.24
Hi everybody,
1. I've got the problem of dealing with external files in INFORMIX. I
heard that there's a command "CREATE EXTERNAL TABLE" in Informix,
allowing to declare a file as a table. Does anyone know about it?
2. Is there a way to produce a file containing the result of a
SELECT-statement in fixed-length format, one record per line?
Thank you in advance
Markus
