Informix hang
Posted in 2008
Summary
A Java app using the Informix JDBC driver with a dynamic connection pool (min 2, max 50) appeared to hang the remote Informix server after about ten minutes of load, blocking other clients until the Java app was restarted. Suggestions: full logical logs, or exhausting the server's configured connections (Art Kagel suggested lowering the pool maximum or raising the relevant NETTYPE setting in ONCONFIG), plus advice to check onstat -l/-m/-a and try connecting with dbaccess. The poster never replied, so no resolution is recorded.

Hi,
We are running a Java application under load which uses Informix JDBC driver
The Informix server is located on another server
First we tried static connection pool, everything seems to work fine however
for some reason we can not use static connection pool
So, we enable dynamic connection pool with the following settings: min = 2,
max = 50
After ten minutes of load, the Informix server seems to be hanged, other
clients are not able to connect to it as well
The only way to recover from this situation is to restart our java
application!
Any clue?
Thanks

Perhaps your logical logs are full?

Sounds to me like you are using shared memory connections and only have
50 configured. Once the Java app has glommed all 50 available
connections it hangs trying to get the 51st connection and so do all the
other apps. Once you dropped the Java app you freed up however many
connections it was holding. Try reducing the max connections in the
Java pool or increasing the NETTYPE setting for ipcshm in the ONCONFIG file.

as far as i know only tcp connections in java.
the output from an onstat -l to rule out Obnoxio suggestion or at
least onstat -m or all of it... onstat -a???
that may give a clue why it hangs....??? if it does hang..
can you connect on the server using dbaccess??
Superboer.
