Running UPDATE STATISTICS on a table being used

Hi. It is me again with another question related to UPDATE STATISTICS. Yesterday, I ran UPDATE STATISTICS high on 6 of my largest tables WHILE they were being read by a large query. Now the update statistics was really necessary since the entire database had undergone a schema and data change. My question is this: Since the update statistics was going on parallelly with the query, will the query use the new plan once the update statistics is over or does it still go with the old plan ?? The query is just taking for ever to complete, and I am therefore quite concerned.
