Hi everyone, One of our servers here has NUMCPUVPS set to 2 but AFF_SPROC and AFF_NPROCS are set to 0 (zero). What do you think are the implications of this setting? Environment: Informix 7.12 UC3 Solaris 2.51 w/ 4 CPUS Thanks, Zandy -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own
The NUMCPUVPS value indicates the number of CPU VP's that are started up at run time. As you are running 4 CPU machine, 2 CPU VP's is not a problem. AFF_SPROC & AFF_NPROCS only come into effect if processor affinity is supported on your platform. It 'pins' a CPU VP to a physical CPU, starting at AFF_SPROC for AFF_NPROCS number of physical processors. As these are both set to 0, affinity is not in operation. So the answer to your questions is:- None !! If affinity IS supported on your platform ( read your $INFOMRIXDIR/release/*/*/IDS* release notes ) then pinning a CPU VP to a processor can improve performance significantly, as the CPU VP's will not be swapped off the physical CPU in favour of a higher priority VP ) Sean zandy@my-dejanews.com wrote in message <79usta$vfq$1@nnrp1.dejanews.com>... >Hi everyone, > >One of our servers here has NUMCPUVPS set to 2 but >AFF_SPROC and AFF_NPROCS are set to 0 (zero). > >What do you think are the implications of this setting? > >Environment: >Informix 7.12 UC3 >Solaris 2.51 w/ 4 CPUS > >Thanks, >Zandy > > >-----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- >http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own
