You're talking a PC app, a client-server app or what? If it's purely PC, I'd use Delphi. If it's c-s, I'd use Informix backend and probably Delphi frontend. I'm using Delphi, NewEra and Progress at the moment. Delphi is the slickest and easiest to get going in. Don't know where it hits the wall, yet, though. NewEra has about the best underlying language but is hard to get going in and the manuals won't help much. Screen painter isn't in Progress' or Delphi league. OTOH, the Informix backends on unix are rock solid, fast enough for me and easy to program/maintain, esp. SE. I wouldn't willingly use anything else - and I've used Oracle, Progress and Sybase.
