Problem with Informix index
Posted in 1997
We too, have had lots of index corruption on our NCR platforms.
Since we upgraded from 5.02 to 7.11, the index corruption has diminished,
but not entirely gone away.
My suspicion is as follows: Our application was written by a 3rd party
vendor. They chose to enforce referential integrity through the engine
instead of using application managed ri. This is fine, EXCEPT that
several of the child tables are very large ( 1 million+ rows ), and
the column(s) that the ri is on have highly duplicate values.
This means that we have some HUGE linked lists of rowids for each key value.
Anytime we insert, update, or delete ( which is often ), these linked lists
supporting the indexes have to be rebuilt. I have a feeling that all of this
rebuilding of linked lists is opening up "opportunities" for corruption.
By the way, I have found that the most efficient way to fix an index is
to drop it and recreate, rather than letting tbcheck repair it.
Anyone else out there with lots of index corruption?

Hi,
Frequently I have problems with index in tables and
I have used "oncheck -cI" to repair.
I would like if it is normal in other installation.
I am running Online 7.11 UC1 in RS/6000 AIX 3.2.5
Can anybody help me?
