RE: Extent size when rebuilding a table

Sure. Figure out hwo many extents you want. Unload the table. Drop the table. Recreate the table with the new first extent size and reload. Or, create a new table with the proper sizing, insert into is select * from the other, drop the old table and rename the new one. Otherwise there is no point to it. The 'in place' thing won't work. Incidentally, an Informix consultant I knew in my last life had a neat concept for all of those system tables which get over-extended. Load your database, do your update stats etc. Check the size of these system catalog tables. Drop and recreate the database, alter next size for the catalog tables to a more appropriate size and reload. Ideal if you have the luxury of that sort of down time. cheers j. > -----Original Message----- > From: c-eriks@algonet.se [mailto:c-eriks@algonet.se] > Sent: Friday, November 17, 2000 10:13 AM > To: informix-list@iiug.org > Subject: Extent size when rebuilding a table > > > Hi! > > I'm trying out ways to reduce the number of extents for tables.
