isql run error after upgrade
Answered: amber (solid confidence) — Manoj Vakeel correctly identifies this as a known CSDK defect (server install overwrites ISQL/4GL libraries); Art Kagel and others confirm and give workarounds (separate LD_LIBRARY_PATH ordering, or upgrade ISQL to 7.50). OP confirms deselecting client-sdk during install avoids the problem, but no single definitive permanent fix is confirmed by IBM.

After upgrading IDS from 11.50.FC3 to FC5, ISQL 7.32 no longer listed *.per form source files in the form compile menu. Suggestions included checking DBPATH/current directory and file permissions, but these didn't help. Manoj identified it as a known CSDK defect (IBM APAR IC62803): the server install ships a newer CSDK that overwrites libraries used by ISQL/4GL. The poster confirmed that deselecting client-SDK during the IDS install avoided the problem; Art suggested installing ISQL separately with its own LD_LIBRARY_PATH or moving to ISQL 7.50. No official fix was available in the thread.

Thanks for all you guy's help, After install isql & then intalling ids 11.5FC5 . If I deselect client-sdk , It will be OK! So I think that it must be somefiles overwritten by client-sdk .

The server install also installs a new version of the CSDK which tramples on several libraries used by ISQL & 4GL. It doesn't matter where DBPATH points, the older stuff is broken. There's no indication I've seen as to how to fix it. Would reinstalling ISQL break the CSDK? Can the CSDK be deinstalled & replaced with an older one? If so which is recommended? Is there a fixed version of the CSDK available? I can't see Obo's solution of installing in different directories helping - whatever library path is set to it's bound to resolve to one set of libraries or the other and unless the CSDK will work with the older libraries one or other of the toolsets is going to end up using the wrong libraries. I'd noticed the problem on my own Linux laptop a few days ago but not got round to investigating it. In fact I'd assumed it was probably yet another non-backward-compatible Linux upgrade until this thread appeared but in fact it must have been the CSDK I installed earlier. -- Ian The Hotmail address is my spam-bin. Yeah. Sounds that way. Joe, it sounds like you can either install ISQL in
a separate directory listing the lib subdirectory of that installation first
in LD_LIBRARY_PATH for running ISQL apps and the lib subdirectory of the IDS
installation first for running other Informix applications such as dbaccess
and the on* tools or you could try getting an upgrade to ISQL v 7.50 which
is probably compatible with the libraries included with the CSDK 3.50
release that comes with IDS 11.50.

For the source files isql will first look in the current directory. Are you in that directory when you launch isql. isql will also look in the directories specified by DBPATH. is that environment varieable set and exported?

I run isql with full path name , and change directory ( cd) to the directory that perform souce file located. Also, Try Art's suggestion set DBPATH. Now , I have to wait for FC6 and pray for luck.

Security was a big "feature" brought in .... Check directory permissions ... i.e. where is your source file?
