Have a look at the load FAQ (www.artentech.com/downloads.htm) - if you =
can't get it let me know and I'll send it along - there is an external =
(to IBM) discussion of HPL and some of it's failings. The next section =
right after HPL is a discussion of the XPS ploader - which states =
essentially - imagine all of the power of HPL with all of the problems =
fixed. ;-). =20
The ploader is much nicer in that you have an internal table definition =
and can use the 'external files' as tables. =20
Get rid of the way HPL hogs shared memory until it runs out. =20
The ploader is much eaiser to script than HPL. onpladm is cute, but =
it's an afterthought, not a better solution. =20
Where there is a 2GB limit, it would be nice if the unloader dealt with =
that gracefully - either announcing in the beginning that there is =
insufficient space, or by creating a new unload file once it hit the 2GB =
boundary. It can be a real pain to set up an unload, you think you're =
ok, and then 30 minutes in it falls over because you didn't include =
anough files in your device to unload your 100GB table.
HPL is finicky (yes, that's a technical term) It might be easier to just =
port the ploader back and get rid of the interface all together.
Regards,
Jack Parker
