Hi to all! I am migrating several applications from SCO UNIX to Linux Red Hat 5 Enterprise. I had to recompile all Informix 4GL using Linux version of Informix 7.31 and C library to C compiler of Linux. I use printers ESC strings (to bold, compress and underline) to printing. I still using the same ESC strings on Linux environment that used on SCO UNIX but I am experimenting problems with HP Laser printers. After the first line the printer acts like if no any carriage return has emited. I dont know if it is related to ESC strings or not. Did any of you a semilar experience? Please let me know. Best Regards, Pedro Ivo Neves

I'm not overly hot on Linux so I can't point you in the right direction!! but you are only sending line feeds and not line feed/carriage returns. YOu can change this in the print definition files or (on some printers) you can redefine line feed to mean LF/CR. Keith

I assume the print subsystem in use is CUPS? Are you specifying the print job as raw (application/octet-string) when you submit the job? Otherwise CUPS will attempt to MIME sniff it and attach it to a backend for rendering. You may also need to enable raw print jobs in CUPS as several distributions have it disabled by default.
