syslog

Hi, Curious to know if there is a way to reroute all informix messages to syslog instead of MSGPATH config parameter. 1st time posting..........

What do you mean by syslog? I am solaris, IDS 9.4, there is no "syslog" in my onconfig. Perhaps you mean server system log (such as on solaris /var/adm/messages)? Interesting idea, could be messy in your syslog, but if your perms on your syslog allow the informix engine owner (i.e. unix login informix user) to write to syslog (i.e. /var/adm/messages), simply change the MSGPATH in onconfig to whatever your syslog is. ============================================================ The information contained in this message may be privileged and confidential and protected from disclosure. Sorry, I am on aix5.2 and would like to investigate the idea of centralizing all error logging to the system syslog. Not sure if that is doable? syslog.conf points to a Linux server where all the messages get logged.

Hi, Not sure if this exists on AIX, but there might be a way to log through a named pipe and use the logger command to post everything to syslog. Make a new pipe using mknod mknod /var/log/ponline.log p chown informix:informix /var/log/ponline.log Start a script like the following: while true do logger -p local0.notice < /var/log/ponline.log done Then modify your log in onconfig to the named pipe. Haven't tried that specifically with informix, but this works in other environments. Adjust the syslog tags or levels as you want it (servername, ids instance, could be a nice tag).
