Hello all, I'm just getting the first steps of my ODBC software loaded. I pulled the software from OpenLink, and am just getting the configuration done prior to checking all the agents on my HP loaded. In configuring my ODBC drivers, I'm in need of the following: Datasource Name: Would I get this from my /opt/informix/etc/sqlhosts? Domain: ? Not sure here...I'm only familiar with NT domains Server HostName: Again, is this the name of the db in sqlhosts? Database Name AND Database Server: My background is admittedly weak with DB's, mostly with that "other" RDB; I've had just enough training to be dangerous (sql, imports/exports, etc). The system I have running INFORMIX has most of the application software running through menus, which doesn't tell me much, so I'll likely have to pick some brains with some pretty basic questions...so, please bear with me. Database name is the name of the database you want to connect to. For instance, sysmaster is a database name; stores7 is a database name. The database instance you can get from sqlhosts, or from just typing 'echo $INFORMIXSERVER'. > My background is admittedly weak with DB's, mostly with that "other" RDB; > I've had just enough training to be dangerous (sql, imports/exports, etc). > The system I have running INFORMIX has most of the application software > running through menus, which doesn't tell me much, so I'll likely have to > pick some brains with some pretty basic questions...so, please bear with me. > > Thanks in advance for your knowledge, > > Joe Robinson, SFC > System Administrator > USPFO for Oregon, Oregon Army National Guard > Email: robinsonj@or-arng.ngb.army.mil > <mailto:robinsonj@or-arng.ngb.army.mil> > Phone: (503) 945-3776 DSN 355-3776 > FAX: (503) 945-3959 DSN 355-3959 > -- # unrm / ksh: unrm: not found # man cpio Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Oops, this is wrong, you have to get it from sqlhosts since the once you'll get from echoing INFORMIXSERVER will most likely be a shared memory connection rather than TCP. Sorry about that. > > > My background is admittedly weak with DB's, mostly with that "other" > RDB; > > I've had just enough training to be dangerous (sql, imports/exports, > etc). > > The system I have running INFORMIX has most of the application > software > > running through menus, which doesn't tell me much, so I'll likely have > to > > pick some brains with some pretty basic questions...so, please bear > with me. > > > > Thanks in advance for your knowledge, > > > > Joe Robinson, SFC > > System Administrator > > USPFO for Oregon, Oregon Army National Guard > > Email: robinsonj@or-arng.ngb.army.mil > > <mailto:robinsonj@or-arng.ngb.army.mil> > > Phone: (503) 945-3776 DSN 355-3776 > > FAX: (503) 945-3959 DSN 355-3959 > > > > -- > # unrm / > ksh: unrm: not found > # man cpio > > Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ > Before you buy. > -- # unrm / ksh: unrm: not found # man cpio Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Not sure here...I'm only familiar with NT domains This should be a dropdown list. Select the appropriate version of Informix. > > Server HostName: Again, is this the name of the db in sqlhosts? > IP address or server domain name for network access. > Database Name AND Database Server: > All you should need is Database Name. Database Server options are optional. If you're using the Openlink Multi-Tier solution, their db agent handles the INFORMIXSERVER resolution if you have your oplrqb.ini properly configured (should have been done at server install-time). > Thanks in advance for your knowledge, > > Joe Robinson, SFC > System Administrator > USPFO for Oregon, Oregon Army National Guard > Email: robinsonj@or-arng.ngb.army.mil > <mailto:robinsonj@or-arng.ngb.army.mil> > Phone: (503) 945-3776 DSN 355-3776 > FAX: (503) 945-3959 DSN 355-3959 > HTH Stephen Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
