ontape -s using too much temp space

I'm running IDS 11.10.HC2 on an hp-ux 11i machine. We just upgraded from 9.40
3+ weeks ago. Previously, we had no problem running level 1 backups during the
day. However, now I am noticing that my temp dbspace will sometimes fill up
during the level 1 backup. I just aborted the backup and the temp dbspace
usage went to essentially 0.
here's a listing of what's in temp dbspace from oncheck -pe:
DBspace Usage Report: tmpdbs Owner: informix Created: 10/26/1999

I've never known temp dbspace to be used by ontape in this manner. Is this a
new feature or?
Thanks.

Point in time backups work by keeping track of all of your changes in temp
while the dbspaces are backed up. These changes are then applied. Do less
work while you are doing your backup, run your backup faster or create
bigger temp spaces and this problem will go away.
- Do less work - do the backups during off hours.
- Run them faster - send them to disk - compressed files works nicely.
- Add more temp dbspace.
