Re: rootdbs can be moved to larg

If you really, really want to move the root dbspace from cooked file to raw device, use the following example: Assume that your current root dbspace is /usr/rootchunk & it consists of 20000 2k pages. You want to move it to /dev/rdsk/rootchunk. 1. Create your slice /dev/rdsk/rootchunk using the appropriate o/s commands. Make appropriate ownership and permission changes. 2. Shut down your Informix instance. Make an archive to be safe. 3. Copy the contents of /usr/rootchunk to /dev/rdsk/rootchunk. dd if=/usr/rootchunk of=/dev/rdsk/rootchunk bs=2048 count=20000 4. Remove the file /usr/rootchunk. Replace it with a symbolic link to /dev/rdsk/rootchunk. rm /usr/rootchunk; ln -s /dev/rdsk/rootchunk /usr/rootchunk. 5. Bring the instance back up with the root dbspace still pointing to /usr/rootchunk. You're in business. The only option is to add more chunks to the > rootdbs. Is it not a possibility to add a chunk to the rootdbs, move the existing tables to the new chunk, then dropping the original chunk? Is there something that would be in the Reserve pages or elsewhere that might cause trouble with this later on??? I suppose the rootdbs path in the ONCONFIG file would have to be changed? I ask this because a client originally created their rootdbs in a unix file rather than on a raw device, and I'd like to move it.
