Some intermittent problem with Cloudscape

Hi, I could not find any Cloudscape related newsgroup. This is the one that is closest, hence this posting. I am using Cloudscape3.5 (rmi version) from a java application. The application is at times stalling and not doing anything (though rarely!!!!). After some hectic sequence of stopping the server and starting again, the application starts working. Does anyone know of any reason why this should happen. I am able to bypass the problem, if after every instance of the application execution, I stop and restart the server - but in that case I am killing the very essence of using the rmi server - so that other users do not get affected when I am using the database - as long more than one does not try to alter the same table!!! Thanks in advance, Regards, Arijit
Hi, You can usually find some Cloudscape help here (comp.databases.informix) or in comp.lang.java.databases. There is also email developer assistance available at cloudhelp@informix.com. If your database is embeddable, you may find that embedding it directly in the application alleviates the stalling that you are seeing. I think there are RMI properties you can set for things like timing out connections, which may help alleivate the stalling; I don't know the properties myself, but they are likely to be documented on Sun's Java website. If this is a multi-use application, you might want to investigate the transactions and SQL statements that are being issued, lock contention may be the cause of the problem. I'd recommend you send email with details on the problem to the folks at cloudhelp@informix.com, they can provide you with assistance.
