RE: Clustered Servers

Not a problem, but you will only have Informix active on any one member at a time. In a 2 member config, the second member will can only be used as a failover instance. In other words: Mem1: Informix instance 1, Database/Instance 1 Mem2: Informix failover instance 1, Database/Instance 1 BUT you can also add second instance to do some load sharing. Mem1: Informix failover instance 1, Database/Instance 2 Mem2: Informix instance 1, Database/Instance 2 With the dreaded "O", OPS you can indeed do load sharing, but failover while doing a insert does not work correct on our server. I do not know of a equivalent product in Informix. There is default CAA {Cluster Application Availability} subsystem scripts installed with the system, including Informix, O, Apache, Samba, Netscape. /var/cluster/caa/examples. Agreed with the clown. Steps: 1 Install True64 on disk inside server. 2 Fibre: Create Quorum Disk, 1MB 3 Create member 1+2 root + swap disk 4 Create shared /usr, /var 5 Run clu_create. This init mem1 root + /usr + /var 6 Boot mem1 and clu_add_mem 7 Boot mem2. All OK. Done 8 Step 1 disk never needed anymore. Hope it helps. -----Original Message----- From: obnoxio@hotmail.com [mailto:obnoxio@hotmail.com] Sent: Thursday, 14 December, 2000 10:46 PM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Re: Clustered Servers In the year of Our Lord Thu, 14 Dec 2000 18:46:53 +0000, "s.smale" <s.smale@ntlworld.com> broke a vow of silence to utter: >Has anybody any experience of running Informix on clustered >servers, particularly on DEC Alphas running version 5.1 of >operating system. Our hardware supplier says no problem. It isn't a problem on Sun clusters. It's a little more involved to install than on a single box, and upping and downing are a little odd, but that's about it.
