Hi, You are absolutely right. The point that once lots of data have been added into the tables the indexes are out dated any way (even if they are turned off and on. I have come to realize that you can turn on and off Indexes with Informix Dynamic Server). Some how the bell did'nt ring in my head. Without doubt now , I will delete and recreate my Indexes. Thank you for the enlightenment. sherwin Sebastian Paul Avarvarei wrote: > Hi! > > I can't think of any method of temporarily turning off the indexes (but > I'm not very experienced). > > But I can't find any reasons for doing so. But which is faster, enable / disable or drop / recreate? I've always dropped and recreated, myself. John Carlson Informix DBA WHSmith USA sherwin wrote: > > Hi, > You are absolutely right. John, I would think they should take the same amount of time since they're basically performing the same function, but I must admit, I haven't tested this. I would think enable/disable would be easier since you don't have to save out to file or go looking for your index's DDL. Kind regards, John Bejarano.
