authentification

hello. I would like to know how informix authenticates when someone tries to connect to certain DB. Does it authenticate itself with the OS, or does it have a database with all the authentification info of the users (like in MySQL)? the operating system has to know the someone ( have an account on) the machine. the database has to have 'connect' privileges. the tables have to have 'select..' privileges. there is a more thorough answer to your question in a previous article by Art Kagel. Let me clarify myself. It uses the OS to verify that the user should be able to connect to the machine, but uses internal permissions to verify access to certain tables or databases. In other words, a user may be able to connect to the machine and by default, the database using OS level verification. However, you can set up database level permissions using the GRANT statement.
