Cathy Kipp said >Many people seem to be writing: ->Snip, stuff about a sig Cathy, and anyone else who missed the original post. I have reposted as follows the circumstances that led to my adopting the sig you refer to. Since then it has been taken up by others, more power to them. It was never my intention to stifle the legitimate use of anything I post within this newsgroup or the professional community that it is, in the main, made up of. I am, however, absolutely determined that nothing I write should be used by any commercial organisation to vilify another. It is a modus operandi that I find personally distasteful, if not contemptible. Hence my adoption of the sig. Bearing in mind your comments, I have modified the sig as under, I hope this avoids confusion in the future. I suppose there is no point in being too vague about these things. I am not an english professor so if anyone can come up with a more effective and succint phrasing that does the same job I would be pleased to adopt it. Likewise, anyone who feels as I do is welcome to adopt the sig. regards -- -- Peter Tashkoff <tashkop@kiwi.co.nz> Project Consultant/DBA NZ Kiwifruit Marketing Board Usual Disclaimers Apply --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALL RIGHTS RESERVED This posting is copyright and may be used only for the purposes of professional study or the professional exchange of information. That situation has now been resolved to our satisfaction however I have been advised by Informix that the post I made has been used, along with many others from this group, in an attempt by Oracle Corporation to discredit Informix in a competitive selling situation. I don't know how others feel about this but personally I am mighty peeved. I value this group as an opportunity to learn from the experience of other RDBMS professionals and pay that back when I can by offering my own experience. I don't appreciate some third party trying to capitalise on that by taking articles out of context. Over the last year or so I have had to struggle to maintain my respect for Oracle in the face of their sometimes ridiculous advertising campaigns and distorted claims in the media (and in this group). Right now all I can say is, it's a mighty big struggle. If anyone was wondering why Oracle partisans are so active in this group, we now have the answer, they are monitoring it. My understanding is that under the new copyright laws it is not neccessary to explicitly claim copyright in any publication as it is automatically endowed by virtue of authorship; Notwithstanding this situation, I will in the future be adding a restricted use notice on all material I post to this and other groups. (At least now I get an excuse for a flashy multiline sig). If anyone has a more succint version that does the same job, I would appreciate a copy. To save Oracle the trouble of having to sift through the newsgroup to glean this post I have copied it to their webmaster. With respect to Oracle partisans wasting everyones bandwidth, can I suggest an effective strategy is to ignore them. (Terribly hard at times I know). But as we say down here (some of us); ' Pirau Kai, ma te arero e kape', - Rotten food is passed over by the tongue. Best wishes to all for the festive season. Beware the jabberwocky and all of that. rgds - - Peter Tashkoff <tashkop@kiwi.co.nz> Project Consultant/DBA NZ Kiwifruit Marketing Board Usual Disclaimers apply. --------------------------------------------------------------------- All rights reserved.
