I've never seen the logic of this. I didnt see the original post so I will just respond to this one... I have only been involved from the DBA side of this solution, so I am not real familiar with how that side of it works. I believe you can just put the informix directory on the shared disks as well. If one machine goes down, then you can change the IP address swing the disks over to the backup box and bring Informix up. Mail me if you want to talk about this more. As far as the fact that disks fail the most, this is true, but you have mirroring and such to get around that, you lose a different piece of hardware, you might be SOL. Hope this helps, Will
