SQL Error Code: -211
Posted in 2009
A user on IDS 7.31.UD6 (Solaris 8) hit intermittent "-211 Cannot read system catalog (sysprocplan)" with ISAM error -144 (key value locked), which slowed the application; his workaround was stopping the app, running UPDATE STATISTICS, and restarting. Replies suggested causes/fixes: contention from a stored procedure calling another frequently used procedure (solved by inlining the called procedure's code), NULL data the procedure couldn't handle, and running UPDATE STATISTICS FOR PROCEDURE to re-optimize plans. The poster only said he would have the application team review the code, so no confirmed resolution is recorded; the thread also drifts into a complaint about not quoting replies.

SQL Error Code: -211 SQL State: IX000 SQL Message: Cannot read system catalog (sysprocplan). (-144)ISAM error: key value locked Rick
Hi, I am not sure if this is applicable to you, however; The last time I experienced this error, I resolved it by de-normalising one of the stored procedures. We found that calling a stored procedure from within a frequently used stored procedure agrivated the problem. We embedded the code from the called stored procedure into the calling stored procedure and the problem went away. Hope that this helps Regards Mark -----Original Message----- From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of CHEE KHUAN LEONG Sent: 23 March 2009 05:10 AM To: ids@iiug.org Subject: SQL Error Code: -211 [15274] Hi, I have encounter below error while application is running on my informix 7.31.UD6 (solaris 8). Hi Mark, Thanks for the recommendation. Well, I am not sure whether the problem is trigger by application or not? But i will get application support to check against their code. Rick
Hello, i had this error when there was a null in the data and the store procedure can´t resolved this. Changed the null for spaces or zero and Worked fine. This is to everyone: PLEASE QUOTE THE POSTING OR REPLY THAT YOU ARE REPLYING TO SO EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT THE *(&#$ YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT! Many of us follow these forums using email and we DO NOT save the posts, so there is no other thread to follow than the quoted text in the replies. In this case, for example, I have no idea whose recommendation you are thankful for. If you were saying "EUREKA that worked!" it would not help anyone else with the same problem if the future. If the post you are replying to is lengthy, then SNIP it to its essentials retaining enough that a reader will be able to figure out what your reply means and add <SNIP> in there to indicate that there was more text deleted so a curious browser with a similar problem can follow the thread. Every emailer and newsreader has a setting that quotes the message you are replying to if you tick it off. If you really are unable to find that checkoff, at least cut and paste the text. Art Art S.
