HELP with arcunload

We are trying to restore just one table with arcunload. I am using a version that was created on an AIX 4.2 system, with 7.2x Informix. However, we are on AIX 4.3 and 7.3 Informix. The 4 Gig backup tapes we are using are being compressed, and the onconf file as well as onmonitor use a 4.5 Gig size for the tape, otherwise we would need 2 archive tapes. I have used another program called archecker which tells me that it finds the data on the tape. I do get a slot 1 error, which Informix thinks is because the AIX logical volume manager writes to the beginning of each logical volume. But archecker does tell us it was a good scan and returns no errors. So then when I run arcunload, I tell it to save the output in /tmp and give it a temporary filename also in /tmp. We do have a temporary dbspace that it appears not to be using. Arcunload runs and creates it's own different temporary file in /tmp. Sometimes arcunload fails and this file gets deleted, but sometimes it works and we can look at the temp. file. Inside it is all kinds of configuration data for our databases, but no actual data. My output file and temporary file I create as user informix are always zero size. Has anyone used this program and do you have any pointers? Sure would appreciate it!!! CKG

This is not good. Arcunload creates onunload files from your archive
tape, and onunload formats vary from version to version (as do archives,
although not as dramatically). Hence all the OnLine-version-specific
versions of Arcunload. When I started it, I didn't realize onunload
varied so much from version to version.

Hmmm, I would expect it to give you an error; I don't think you should
ever have a successful completion and no output file. But again,
Arcunload 7.2x can't really be used with OnLine 7.30.

I haven't really used the program, beyond testing it ;) but I'm not
surprised it doesn't work in your configuration. I'm afraid it's a bit
of an anachronism now. What a shame; I thought it was such a handy
little thing when I finished it.
