Use with common sense. The ability to generate reports (using RPtwin, a $99.00 add-on) is a little klunky to learn, but really quite powerful, once you leap the learning hump. The ability to store definitions of logical entities is nice for future reference (Why the *^^%#$ did we add this table? Oh, yeah...) Schema generation is nice. You can generate index-only schemas (great for dropping and re-adding indexes en-masse), or almost any other unique type of schema you want. Document a new TABLE/COLUMN/INDEX and you automatically get the DDL. The PHYSICAL manipulation from ERwin is always a bit behind INFORMIX. On the one hand, where you can generate a table with IN DBSPACE, LOCK MODE, and EXTENT SIZE information stored in ERwin, the synchronization process is poor. If you add a column in the middle of a table, the ERD and DDL generated by ERwin will have the column where you placed it, but if you choose the SYNC ERWIN WITH INFORMIX option, the column is placed at the end of the table. (apparantly they do not generate the BEFORE column clause). Of course, depending on the size of your tables, you may not wish or be able to synchronize anyway.
