RE: Questions about ontape

I have created the same sizes of dbspaces in a new m/c as our production
m/c. I am then restoring level-0 of the production system in the new
one. When I am doing ontape -r, It restored the rootdbs fine. 2nd
dbspace was also restored without any problem. When the third dbspace
was getting restored, it exited with the following message.
'Physical restore failed. Function read archive backup failed.
code - 1 errno - 5'.
What is the reason for the failure?
When it is doing restore, I am seeing the following message with
onstat - command.
'Infx server 7.3 Fast Recovery (CKPT REQ) - Up 00.25:00 ,
Blocked CKPT'. Is it ok or anything to be done on this?

Ontape received an error while trying to read the tape. Unfortunately it
was the
dreaded and highly non-descriptive UNIX errno 5: "I/O Error". Look in your
system message logs for any messages from the tape and SCSI drivers that may
hint
at the problem. Also try cleaning the drive heads and restoring again, make
sure
you are NOT using a no-rewind device, there should not be an 'n' in the
devicename. Also on some systems you may have problems taking tapes from
one
system to another because of changes in the tape drive firmware level or the
OS's
tape device driver version. I have run into both of these last on
Sun/Sparc/Solaris,
DG/Intel/DGUX, and DG/M88K/DGUX. We are always careful that either sister
machines are purchased and delivered together or we spend time and effort to
get
both machines on the same firmware/driver version levels to avoid surprises
in case
we need to cross-restore.

That is normal during a restore.
