RAID question

I am interested in the pros and cons of the different RAID levels. AFAIK RAID 1 with mirrors gives a robust system with good read and recover performance, and a reduced write performance compared with RAID 5. However all thoughts & information are welcome. -- Surfer!

Incorrect. RAID1 will give 50% BETTER write performance than RAID5 which is also NOT as secure as it is cracked up to be. See the other two RAID5 threads in Feb. and also see my rantings on the subject of RAID5[:-(] and RAID10[:-)] which you can search for on the IIUG WEB Site.
