Helen You are getting a lock problem. Check to see that you have row-level locking (systables.locklevel = "R" for systables.tabid > 99) on your application tables. Also check to see if your application is executing sequential scans. You can either scan the application code manually and run the SQLs by hand with SET EXPLAIN ON or put in SET EXPLAIN ON within an #ifdef DEBUG block at the beginning of the application, and set DEBUG=1 in your environment when you run the app. If you find sequential scans see if you can convert it to an indexed read by tuning the indexes. Oh and BTW, make sure you run UPDATE STATISTICS if you haven't done so already. If you haven't perhaps your application SQL was already tuned but your database stats have become stale. If you are running 7.2x/7.3x read the manuals or go to the IIUG archives to find out the sequence of UPDATE STATISTICS that need to be done. It says that the database server is unable to set the file position to paticular row within the file representing a table. How do I locate the ISAM error code? The solution is to run bcheck or secheck. This may seem simple to most of you, but this is a new area for me, so I would appreciate any help that you can offer based in the knowledge that my insight into Informix is limited! Thank you in advance, Helen Warburton (Assistant Systems Manager- Bournemouth Hospital)
