Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Karthik saw repeated "listener-thread@soc_be.c:3073: err = -25582 ... Network connection is broken" messages in the online log on Informix 12.10.FC6 / RHEL 6.9, with clients losing connections and timing out; onstat -g ntt/nta and netstat gave no clues. Benjamin explained the message appears whenever anything connects to the listener port and disconnects without completing the Informix SQLI protocol (e.g. telnet/curl, a port scan or penetration test), regardless of whether telnet-server is enabled locally. Karthik later reported the actual cause in his case was a repeating query stuck in rollback, which triggered the broken-connection errors.

Hi Folks,
Recently we are getting this error at a random intervals .
During this error the connection is lost from the client and it goes for a
time out.
Tried with onstat -g ntt,nta , netstat -an but no luck.
Can anyone suggest how to find the root cause and fix the issue.
Thanks in advance !!!

Adding Version details
Informix Version : IBM Informix Dynamic Server Version 12.10.FC6

Thanks & Regards,

The most likely explanation is a non-Informix connection to your listener. You
can replicate this message using "telnet listener_ip listener_port". It might
be a caused by a penetration test or similar.
Ben.

Thanks Ben for your response .
But telnet is blocked on our server is any other way we get this error.
Regards,
Karthik Rajan
The message will be seen whenever something connects to your Informix listener
and disconnects without following the Informix SQLI protocol. This could be
more or less anything like the telnet or curl client utilities or any program
that opens a socket and disconnects.
Whether telnet-server is running/blocked on your server is not relevant.
Ben.

Hi Ben,
The issue was a repeating query in rollback state which caused the network
broken error.
Thanks for your support.

Karthik Rajan
