From Mark: }Here is a question. How long do you run between system shutdowns? } }Configuration: }IBM RS6000 PowerServer 360 }AIX 3.2.4 }Informix-OnLine 4.10.UD2 (from the isql intro screen) } }What we have is a library automation system on this machine. Is there }any reason, from the database perspective, why the machine should/would }need to be rebooted on a daily, or every other day, schedule? I am not }very familiar with databases and how they operate so any info is greatly }appreciated. Thanks. I suspect we have the same library automation system--GEAC (was CLSI). We shut down every weekday, amd since we are not open on weekends, it runns all weekend. Often I have had to leave it running for a couple of days--and it does slow down. There are more core dumps, more conflicts, more processes judt running wild and not doing anything. You could monitor the system well, I imagine, and not have to shut it down--but it is just easier to shut it down-- I'll be interested to hear what the Informix gurus have to say about this-- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Holly Gordon (hgordon@tsl.texas.gov) | SW--CLSI LIBS100+, Informix Online 4.10 Texas State Library | OS--UNIX system V, release 3.2.0 i386 Austin, Texas | HW--Sequent S27 (386)
