Re: JDBC middlewar component

Jim You can use a servlet (an applet server) as the middleware. I found a nice site once where this was discussed in a lot of detail, but I cant find it anymore. You may want to check deja for the URL - I remember posting it on comp.databases.informix in response to a problem similar to yours. There are of course other ways such as fiddling with the security properties of the applet, but I prefer the approach above. In other words, I want a product which can listen on a socket on my Web server for a JDBC-compliant applet and act as the middleman between that applet and the sqlexecd daemon listening on the database server. I've tried using Symantec's dbANYWHERE product, but that uses some On-Line specific syntax when attempting to fetch metadata from the database, causing the connection to fail. If anyone out there is using dbANYWERE to connect to standard engine and knows a workaround for this problem, that would help me as well.
