RE: Oninit -i
Posted in 2000
Do you have the environment variable INFORMIXDIR set properly.
If not, oninit is unable to find the message files to tell you what is going
on...
Will
Note 1: Informix is installed in /infx/informix, not /home/informix
Note 2: informix is already running on this box so oninit is failing for that
reason
not do to misconfiguration.
Example of proper INFORMIXDIR:
--
<informix>:/home/informix $ echo $INFORMIXDIR
/infx/informix
<informix>:/home/informix $ oninit -v
Checking group membership to determine server run modesucceeded
Reading configuration file '/infx/informix/etc/onconfig.tclms1.p'...succeeded
Creating /INFORMIXTMP/.infxdirs ... succeeded
Creating infos file "/infx/informix/etc/.infos.sys1_shm" ...
"/infx/informix/etc
/.conf.sys1_shm" ... succeeded
Writing to infos file ... succeeded
Checking config parameters...succeeded
Allocating and attaching to shared memory...FAILED
oninit: Fatal error in shared memory creation

Example of incorrect INFORMIXDIR:
--
<informix>:/home/informix $ export INFORMIXDIR=/home/informix
<informix>:/home/informix $ oninit -v
Message 35593 not found.
succeeded
Message 35541 not found.
