Re: High-Availability For Informix
Posted in 2000
Hi, We are currently using IDS 9.2 on a Sun E45000. In this Informix version they removed the DRAUTO configuration parameter, which basically tells the secondary server what to do in case the primary server fails. This parameter is existing in 7.x. The easiest way to overcome this is to just write a script which basically checks the primary. If it fails switch the secondary to standard mode. And have all applications access the secondary (standard). Here lies the problem, is there any software together with HDR switch the applications to the secondary server as well as switch the secondary server to standard mode once the primary server fails. Basically, achieve the shortest downtime, or non at all. Some of you might say that "write a script/program", but is there another alternative without re-inventing the wheel. I'm getting flak from people saying that Oracle can do this, or something similar to it. I've been to some battle's regarding Informix's high-availability solutions and so far I haven't won any of it yet. Really, about the easiest and most robust way of doing this is to use HDR. ER is a lot of work (even if it is a good solution) and clustering is more work than it's worth... :0) ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ______________________________________________ FREE Personalized Email at Mail.com Sign up at http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup
