Hi Family,
for a specialized reason, my user needs to run an archive (ontape) to
save to a flat file instead of to the tape. He first wanted to know
about how big it should be so I ran the following query:
select sum(ti_npused) used_pages, sum(ti_nptotal) total_pages
from sysmaster:systabinfo
used_pages total_pages
152278 157688
Even in total pages, this comes to < 316 mb. I also happen to know that
there are 48mb of logs. A little over 1000 tables in the instance means
another 2 mb of partition header pages for a total of about 366 mb for
the archive. The reserved pages contribution to this is a pittance.
My user had over 500 mb available on a file system. I thought it should
fit; it was at least worth a try!
Well, a little after the 40% mark the file system was full. The archive
file was out to 511348736 bytes - over 511 mb.
What haven't I accounted for in calculating required space?
Reserved Pages
Partion headers
Log pages at the worst case
onstat -d shows a total of 819,408 K (yes, I doubled the k count afterseeing a page count) but only used pages should matter! Or does it?
Does a level-0 archive save all pages? Or something approaching all
pages? (This is something I really should know! :^)
Thanks.
