not sure - but maybe you could use the enterprise gateway manager to gain access to the remote machine; thru the odbc driver that comes with it. shahid.mehmood@aku.edu wrote: > This message is in MIME format. if all the 3 instances r going to run on the same operating system then
the following procedure should be followed.
1)set different directions in .profile for different instances
set the following parameter seperately (unique) for every instance
ONCONFIG, INFORMIXSERVER and DBSERVERNAME.
2)add one more line in $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts file and a
corresponding entry in /etc/services file .
4)after that u initialize disk space for new instance, while doing so
set new path to ROOTPATH, unique no. to SERVERNUM, new MSGPATH and new
MIRRORPATH if any.

Just make the entries for the new server in the SQLHOSTS files on the client machine (if the apps are running on the first server machine just make the entries there), include the new server in /etc/hosts and the server's service(s) in /etc/services on both server and client machines and set INFORMIXSERVER to the new server for those clients that need to see that server (or connect to that server explicitely in a DATABASE or CONNECT statement in your apps). -- Art S.
