Speak nicely to your Informix sales rep. There's an Informix office in Portland (though they moved buildings a couple of weeks ago -- I don't know whether the number is unchanged, but there'll be at least forwarding info on the old number). No; 4.20 is 8 versions removed from 4.10, and has a number of bug fixes in it (like leap years!). 5.10 SE could be plugged in directly to the 4.10 code, but it is the 4.10 I4GL code that has the bigger problem (though the 4.10 engine won't be immune to misunderstanding the date either). Yes, you will have to recompile everything. Network Behavioral Health Care wrote: > How do I order 4.20 I4GL & 5.10 SE? Okay, thanks. We purchased our code a couple of years ago from our database vendor (who has since gone out of business), but they didn't send us the most recent version of our stuff and about 5% doesn't compile :-( However, I understand 4GL well enough to fix little bugs, so maybe I can get it to work. Do you know if SE 5.10 uses .dat and .idx files in a dbs directory, or does this version use it's own disk manager and store the entire DB as one large file? Not terribly important for the coding issue, but more relevant to my DBA duties. Thanks again for your help. -- Jeff Jonathan Leffler <jleffler@earthlink.net> wrote: > Speak nicely to your Informix sales rep. SE 5.1 store .dat and .idx files the same way as SE 4... I dont know if you
can get SE 5 anymore. Why not upgrade to the latest SE 7.3? You only need
to do another step "dbexport and dbimport"

We have almost never done this whatever the old & new versions of SE
except in a very few cases where the SE 1 database had a mysterious
corruption in the system catalogues. In these cases we had to use ACE
reports etc. to do the equivalent of dbexport as in some cases the
corruption prevented 'dbexport' from working, and in one case the old
version of the engine was so old it didn't include 'dbexport'!
Of course to move from SE to OL requires dbexport & dbimport. BTW SE 7
also has '.dat' and '.idx' files.
I believe this is the 'belt & braces' method suggested by Informix, but
the first time you open the DB with SE7 it creates all the extra system
catalogues. You should then run 'UPDATE STATISTICS'. Be warned - some
queries which were fine in SE 5 don't work (well) in SE 7.
However I agree you should move to the latest SE 7 - probably 7.2x for
SE. This has all the DBCENTURY sorted, as do 7.20 of the tools (4GL,
RDS, ACE, PERFORM).
Of course you would have to recompile the programs / reports / forms ...
