Backup and Restore Help!!!
Posted in 1997
I can think of 2 ways to work around this problem:
1. You can redo your production database to place the target restore
tables each in their own smaller dbspace. You can then restore at the
dbspace level.
2. If you have the luxury of a test box, restore your production archive to
the test box, unload the desired table(s) on the test box, then drop and
recreate and reload on the production box. This, of course, assumes that
you can do a point-in-time reload ( no foreign keys or other dependencies
on other tables ), and you don't want to roll forward any transactions
since the archive.

I have a problem, which I thought was a simple one to fix, but after
consulting with Informix, there is no current Informix utility to solve
my problem.
My problem is: I want to backup my On-Line database each night to tape
and be able to selectively restore tables if needed. Ontape does a good
job of backing up the whole database and restoring individual database
spaces, but I don't want to have to restore the entire space, just a
table or two within that space.
I thought about a dbexport, but my users complained each night when I
kicked them off the system since dbexport requires exclusive access to
each of the tables.
Does anyone have any ideas or experience with my problem.
All help is appreciated!!
