Dear DBA's, In attempting to increase the size of my physlog (which sits on it's own dbspace), I get an error msg from Informix of: "Not Enough Room in Rootdbs" I read the manual and the formula for rootdbs is: Rootdbs = phylog + loglog + temp + data + reserved + on archive My phylog, logical_ log, temp, and data are all on separate dbspaces, and I don't use on archive. Rootsize is 127488 k (I inherited this number) For my situation rootdbs should be: rootdbs = 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + (3% of rootdbs + 25k pages) + 0 or far less than 127488 kb currently allocated, right????? Does data include all the system tables? Q1: If the physlog sits on it's own space why do I need a larger rootdbs to increase the physlog? Shouldn't I be able to increase the phylog, which has quite a bit of room available in the space? Q2: Are my calculations of rootdbs that far off or am I transposing something or ??? tia Doug
It may be that to increase the physical log while the engine is online the engine needs to allocate the entire new logfile before dropping the old one. In this case you may not have room in the dbspace for both. Try this: 1) Shutdown 2) Edit the ONCONFIG file and increase the PHYSFILE parameter, making certain that this is smaller than the total free contiguous space plus the current logfile. 3) Restart Since the physical log is cleared out on a normal shutdown and fast recovery is not needed you can reallocate and even relocate the physical log after a 'normal' shutdown in this manner. Just don't do it after a crash since it will fool the engine into thinking no logical recovery is needed when it is. Art S.
