More information would aid others in helping you.
What version of Informix are you running?
I.E. What is the output from "onstat -V"
To what are the following $ONCONFIG file parameters set:
* PHYSDBS
* PHYSFILE
How are you trying to increase the physical log?
I.E. Via "onparams" command or "onmonitor"?
Please post the "onparams" command line syntax or the
"onmonitor" screen information.
Does your target dbspace have enough contiguous space to hold
the new physical log?

Subject: rootdbs size error msg
Dear DBA's,
In attempting to increase the size of my physlog (which sits on it's own
dbspace), I get an error msg from Informix of:
"Not Enough Room in Rootdbs"
I read the manual and the formula for rootdbs is:
Rootdbs = phylog + loglog + temp + data + reserved + on archive
My phylog, logical_ log, temp, and data are all on separate dbspaces, and I
don't use on archive.
Rootsize is 127488 k (I inherited this number)
For my situation rootdbs should be:
rootdbs = 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + (3% of rootdbs + 25k pages) + 0
or far less than 127488 kb currently allocated, right?????
Does data include all the system tables?
Q1: If the physlog sits on it's own space why do I need a larger rootdbs to
increase the physlog? Shouldn't I be able to increase the phylog, which has
quite a bit of room available in the space?
Q2: Are my calculations of rootdbs that far off or am I transposing
something or ???
tia
