Re: What to get Informix 9 or 10?
Posted in 2005
A user planning new Sun hardware asked whether to move from IDS 7.3 to 9.4 or jump to IDS 10, and which Solaris level to pair it with. The only direct advice came from an HP-UX user: go with IDS 10, but get the latest build (FC3X2) from support or wait for FC4 (expected December), since two bugs had caused serious problems rolling forward on earlier 10.x builds; and test extensively. The thread then drifted into how to search IBM's replacement for TechInfo for release-specific defects (enter e.g. "10.00" and pick the "solve a problem" option) and into arranging a UK user group session on the new support tools. No final decision by the original poster is recorded.

Our shop is HP-UX so there may be some Solaris specifics that I am unaware of. That said we are moving forward with IDS 10. I would either wait for FC4 which should be out sometime in December or call tech support and ask for the most recent PID/drop/build, I think FC3X2 is what we are getting next week. There have been at least two bugs that have caused us significant prolems with rolling forward on 10, these are both fixed in FC4 or FC3X2/latest build. Whatever you do test, test, test, test and when your done with that test again. :) --- Gary Quiring <gquiring@msn.com> wrote: > With Sun's latest service prices on my old E4500 > with two A1000's I can get a > new Sun 490 with two 3510 fiber arrays and almost > pay for it for free in 5 > years. Is it possible to search for these now? scottishpoet directed me to the TechInfo replacement recently and I had a look around. If there is a facility to search for problems by release I didn't find it.
The old techinfo didn't have a search by release facility either. Type 10.00 in the search string and check the solve a problem option and click submit (or go or search or whatever its called) Neil Truby wrote: > "DL Redden" <redden96@yahoo.com> wrote in message > news:1128154128.5d7517e9a9385ba10d0e0b132bd7fbe7@teranews... > > > > Our shop is HP-UX so there may be some Solaris > > specifics that I am unaware of. Neil, IBM Informix Support has presented some of these "new" support tools at user group meetings and infobahns in some EMEA countries when requested. If you think a similar presentation at a UK User group meeting would be of benefit, perhaps you can suggest this to the UK user group steering committee?

Good idea. David Williams organises this now I think. I believe that the schedule for next month's meeting is already set, but Dave, if you're watching, could you consider this as a topic?

Yes, sending it to the Sterring Committee for consideration now. Scottish Poet.. How long would this need? Could it be done as a handout describing it instead? In case we don't have time to present it properly at least we could do handouts....

You'd really need to approach the managers of the support team in London. I am not aware that they have any hand out information prepared I am not sure they have thought how long it would take them to prepare hand outs
