Hi All, Is anybody out there using IDS.2000 on Linux as a production database server? With a database size greater than 500 GB and with fault tolerance. Any problems? Any issues? Is it feasible? Don

Larger than 500GB? -Have you asked Informix?

Linux lacks RAW-io in most distributions, ext2 is non-journaling
(and ReiserFS is lacking in a few ways), tcp-ip is a little
on the slow side, the scheduler is ok but not super-duper,
SMP is not super, and I believe there's a shortage of
storage-managers for onbar (should be verified).
I'd go for "Red Hat Linux Enterprise Edition Optimized for Oracle 8i"
(http://www.redhat.com/products/linux_oracle/) and forget everything
about Oracle...
Your'e still stuck with a 2.2.x kernel with slow tcp-ip, "slow" scheduler,
slow VM and a OS without a journaling FS.
2.4 should remedy some of those problems and it _could_ be out
in a few months -maybe.
We use Linux on all our servers -and are quite happy with it- but
I'd think twice about a >500GB database on Linux.
Any thoughts on number of prosessors, memory, RAID etc?
