HDR question

I am using IDS 7.3 and running with HDR in synchronous mode. I am doing some performance testing using an application database with several db transactions. Before running the tests, I was expecting that with synchronous HDR database transactions would take twice as long as without HDR since the data would have to be written to the secondary's disk first and then the primary's before it completes. however, that appears to not be the case. When i time my db transactions, with and w/o HDR there appears to be no delay in going across the network to write to the secondary's disk. These are insert, and delete operations. Why is this the case? I am running HDR with no disk mirroring on 2 machines (Solaris 2.x) connected with via an ethernet card. I'd be grateful for any enlightment on this subject from other users of Informix as well as employees.
